Service Description

Have you ever heard of Yin Yoga? Maybe you have heard of Yin & Yang or Restorative Yoga. In Chinese Philosophy, Yin & Yang represent equal, opposing but also integrated opposites. In nature, we know some of these opposites: light and dark, active and passive, solar and lunar, ect. India & China being neighbors, share some ancient philosophical commonalities! You’ve probably heard some of these concepts talked about in yoga classes. Yin Yoga is a newer form of movement and is not originally part of ancient yogic philosophy but has been appreciated for its deeply rejuvenative nature. Yin Yoga is where we use a bunch of props: pillows, bolsters and blocks, to support ourselves while we lay in restful stretches. The purpose of Yin Yoga is to complement the yang of our lives. We will hold each position, supported with props, for 3-5 minutes. This allows us to work into the fascia of our bodies. Fascia is connective tissue that encases every part of your body. It’s like the white part of an orange. The Fascia is holding all your organs, muscles, ligaments, everything encased. It’s the pith to your orange. Just like any other part of the body, fascia becomes tense and stiff. Yin Yoga allows us to stretch out this fascial tension and allows for better connection between tissue, increased circulation and reduced stiffness. & for your added benefit, this yin classes will become even more restorative as we add sound! Ideally, you should eat 2 hours before the sound bath or at least, no heavy meals just before. Bring Water & Wear Comfortable, Loose WARM Clothing (that covers the whole body) We will provide the rest. Why cover the whole body? As the body becomes more relaxed, it begins to cool. If your body then must work to warm you up again, this may disturb the depth and experience of relaxation. Location: Brewerton Center for the Arts Time: 06.10.24 | 6:00-7:00
